Costumes & Hair

When a dancer is in the Beginner and Primary grades, they will wear a simple costume of a black skirt and top or a class leotard which has a skirt attached. Once a dancer is in the Intermediate grade they may purchase and wear a solo costume, this is a custom dress that is unique to the dancer.

A dancers presentation is a very important part of the activity and should always be viewed in context to the dancers ability and grade. Whatever level, it is important that the dancer is neat and tidy and socks are pulled up (this is where sock glue comes in!)

Once a dancer is ready to purchase a solo costume, this should be discussed with Mike. He recommends Sue Breen (www.suebreendesigns.com) and Gavin Doherty (www.gavindoherty.co.uk). It may also be possible to buy a used dress from a site such as www.dance-again.com, but Mike would always like to see the details of a dress before it is purchased so he can advise on the most appropriate options for an individual dancer.

Hair may be worn naturally in the Beginner grade. As a dancer progresses it is traditional to have curls or ringlets and while these can be done with curlers (and patience!), for simplicity most dancers choose to wear a wig.
