A Feis is an Irish Dance competition conducted under the rules of an Irish Dancing organisation which provides the means of progression through their grading structure and qualification towards the larger Country and World Championship Events.
The McInerney School of Irish Dance Is associated to "An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelach" and within that organisation under the "South East Regional" Council. Any Irish Dance School wishing to hold a Feis must register via their regional council and comply with relevant conditions. Details of these conditions can be found on the relevant Council websites

As a general guideline, Feis are often structured over two days with a format based on age group and dance. Consequently its not unusual to see younger dancers on one day and the older age groups on the second day. You may have to be prepared to attend both days if you have children which span the age group / day break.
Each age group will have time allocated to its various grades with a Championship event for the more accomplished dancers following the grades.
Feis entry is usually achieved via a form provided by the Feis organisers and will identify competition entry fees. Upon entry a dancer will then be allocated a unique number which shall identify which competition a dancer will be dancing within the schedule. In large Feis with over a thousand dancers , even with best endeavors timing of the age group dances can extend beyond the schedule, so always allow plenty of time in your own journey planning.
Both the format of the Feis ( The Syllabus) and the schedule of the age group dances ( the Timetable) will be published by the Feis organisers prior to the event and can usually be found via the Web. On the day you will usually be able to buy a Feis programme which shall identify each dancer in any particular competition.

All Feis scoring is undertaken by Adjudicators. These are individuals who have previously danced and have taken the Teachers Exam (T.C.R.G) and also the adjudicators exam (A.D.C.R.G).
As a general guideline, for dances undertaken at grade level (Beginner, Primary, Intermediate and Open) a dancer will generally dance in front of a single Adjudicator who undertakes a simple positional marking. For dances at Championship level the dancers usually have to perform in front of a panel of 3 Adjudicators. The scoring for championships is undertaken in a more complex manner using a Grid, aimed at normalising marks across differing Adjudicators
The Championship scoring method is explained in detail on the McGahanlees site and can be accessed via the following Link
